After breakfast take a drive out to Harrow Gardens to experience a historic garden and grand homestead. Harrow was once the centre of the small village with many outbuildings, workers cottages and a school. Harrow is still very much a working property today. The rambling picturesque gardens cover 10 acres featuring a 50 metre rose arbour, a lake with waterlilies, extensive garden beds, interesting trees and shrubs and a fish pond. The garden is open from 10am on Saturday 9 April.
To get there, go past the ‘Bull & Barley Inn’ in Cambooya. Continue under the railway bridge, turn right crossing low level bridge – go straight ahead on gravel road for 1km then left on the ‘Cambooya Felton Rd’ for approx 7km – Entrance to Harrow.
On the way back to Toowoomba, enjoy a good old fashioned pub lunch or a cold drink at The Bull & Barley Inn. This grand old pub has been restored to its former grandeur. Experience the authentic 1900’s old world atmosphere, with displays of interesting historic photographs.
As you arrive back in Toowoomba make sure you visit Ju Raku En - the Japanese Gardens - these gardens, partly owned by USQ and Toowoomba City Council, are quite simply magnificent and a must see. The Garden is open daily from 6:00am (AEST) to Dusk and admission is free. You can enter the gardens via the university or Regent Street.
